Questions About the Job Process

How does the process begin?

When your property has been damaged, after notifying your insurance carrier, you will call our office to set up an appointment with one of our claims specialists. They will be able to assess the damage and provide an estimate for the repair. They will often meet with the insurance adjuster to ensure that the scope of work is accurate and complete.

What next?

Our estimator will give you the estimate once it is complete. If there is a discrepancy between the estimate the insurance adjuster gave you and ours, we will communicate directly with the adjuster in order to verify that the scope of work is the same. If need be, we will continue to work with the insurance company until all parties are satisfied that all needed repairs are covered. We will do all work for the agreed upon amount, the only money that will come out of your pocket is your deductible. Once an estimate has been agreed upon by Brookstone, the insurance company and the property owner, we will be ready to go to contract and get to work.

Who will oversee my job?

Upon receipt of a signed contract, your property will be assigned to a project coordinator. He will meet with you to go over the proposed work schedule and answer any questions you might have. He will communicate with you daily throughout the project, through e-mail, to give you updates and schedule details. He will be with you until your home is fully restored.

How do I pay you?

Our contract requests a down payment of one third of the contract amount. Occasionally, if you have not yet received funds from your insurance carrier, the work can begin with the understanding that the down payment is to be paid as soon as funds are available. Depending on the length of the job, there may be other requests for partial payments. However, if the job can be completed within 30 days or less, there will only be the down payment and the final payment. In most cases, you will receive a check from your insurance company for the amount of our contract, less depreciation. It will be your responsibility to pay those funds to Brookstone, as the work is completed. After all work is satisfactorily completed, the depreciation funds will be made available and will be due to Brookstone.

Will my mortgage company be involved in the payment process?

Sometimes insurance checks will be made payable to both the property owner and the mortgage company in order to protect the mortgage holder’s interest in your property. They may even require an independent inspector to visit the property to ensure that repairs are being done properly. Should this occur, we have office staff that will walk you through the process. We want this to be as simple and hassle-free for you as possible.

What if you discover other problems while you are repairing my property?

Sometimes this happens because we, both insurance adjuster and contractor, cannot see what may be hiding beneath the surface. If this should occur, we will communicate with your insurance company in order to obtain permission to address this repair and will send the insurance company a supplemental bill. The goal of Brookstone and your insurance carrier is for your property to be restored to its pre-loss condition, even if that requires more work than originally foreseen.

What if I have some remodeling work that I would like to have done outside of my repair work?

We are happy to help you with any work you might want done to your property. Often, property owners take advantage of the presence of construction crews to more efficiently and cost-effectively address projects that have been considered. We can help you with projects from as simple as retiling a bathroom to adding a new room. We have relationships with architects and designers and can help you each step of the way.

What kind of damage does your company repair?

We are qualified to repair any damage to your property; including damage from storm, fire and flood. If there is water damage, we will work with a mitigation company to ensure that your property is properly dried out to prevent mold and mildew damage. If there is roof damage from a storm or a fallen tree, we will be quick on the scene to tarp your roof to prevent further damage. If there has been damage to windows or exterior walls, we will provide emergency board-up. Whatever your situation, we are prepared and ready to help you protect your property while preparation is made for its full restoration.
